Groundbreaking for Our Lady of Guadalupe Healing Chapel December 12, 2017
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As you may have heard, great things are happening in our parish community. The Lord has blessed us in many ways and I invite you to join me in a joyful response, one that will continue to bring blessings to the Luling community.
This response includes erecting a chapel in honor of the Blessed Mother, that will house the gift print of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a replica of the Tilma (the cloak of Juan Diego upon which the Mother of God left her image), which currently resides in our church sanctuary. Since its arrival, our community has opened itself up to same gifts Our Lady came to bestow upon the Americas about 500 years ago.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of God and our Mother, the one appointed by God to crush the head of the ancient serpent, and anything that threatens to devour us, appeared in 1531 to a newly converted native man. Within ten years of her appearance to Juan Diego, over ten million natives were converted to the Catholic faith in Mexico. It is our hope that this chapel will stand in Luling as a site of light, place of prayer and healing, which brings hope to all, as we seek the continued conversion of our people.
Bringing together this spirit of the events in Guadalupe with our beautiful history, the façade of the proposed Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel will be scaled down replica of the original St. Anthony Church, which sits on Ellington Avenue; the very site that bears so many fond memories in our faith story. The chapel will sit on St. Anthony’s existing property and will be situated between the church and the CA Building.
Stepping out in faith, we broke ground December 12, 2017, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. So that we can bring the vision of the chapel to fruition, we invite you to join us in our efforts by aiding us in raising the appropriate funds needed to complete this project. The estimated cost of the chapel is $450,000. In one year, individual donations, raffles, fund raising efforts, and introduction of a Buy a Brick program, the contributions for the chapel have exceeded $250,000.
I prayerfully ask you to consider donating money, material, or labor, toward this project. Families can come together and donate as a group. Donations may be made in honor of those living or in memory of the deceased. It is highly recommended that donations be made in honor of the living, in order to place them under the protection of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Please prayerfully consider joining us in erecting this place of tribute to the Mother of God, and a place of prayer and healing for all of us.
Affectionately in Christ,
Father Anthony Odiong, Pastor
St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church
